Stay Human is an art project and sect, dedicated to fighting the rise of any technologies that will allow absolute and unequivocal results to be achieved by any single individual. The ultimate goal of Stay Human is to create a society of humans who create and live passionately together, understand that everyone's life is at once a poignant artistic masterpiece, a hilarious joke, and nothing at all, and fight to keep it that way. Of particular concern are any technologies that will result in a smarter entity than the smartest possible natural human, or technologies that enhance the human body beyond its greatest natural potential. These technologies include, but are not limited to, aspects of nanotechnology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, eugenics, and electronic implants.
Above all, Stay Human values the survival of the human race in its natural and inherently flawed form, as well as the human concept of art. Ideas birthed from artistic endeavor such as love, passion, suffering, transcendence, ecstasy, rebirth, ambition, success, tenacity, and failure are the most powerful and valuable creations humans have brought in to the universe.
One could argue that the pursuit of science is an artistic endeavor and should not be limited, so as not to limit art. I would agree with the first half of that statement. It is a matter of knowing when to stop in order to sustain the most sublime and satisfying aspects of our existence. However, part of our great epoch is, of course, its inherent meaninglessness and destiny of utter annihilation. The coming battle and subsequent failure of humanity to survive beneath the long shadow cast by the technology it itself has created will be glorious, wrenching, and ultimately beautiful. This is our fate. Stay Human is merely a small group of humans creating the art that only humans can create, in the face of impending desolation. Our fight will be forgotten and we will all die. But it will be fucking awesome, regardless of whether anything remains to tell the tale.
